A LEGACY STORY: PROTECTING THE BERING SEA AND BRISTOL BAY FROM OFFSHORE OIL AND GAS DEVELOPMENT
Produced in 2015 by AMCC and Nunamta Aulukestai
This short film chronicles the long struggle to protect Bristol Bay and the southeast Bering Sea from offshore oil and gas drilling. Since the 1970s, those reliant on the region’s marine resources fought to safeguard these waters. On December 16, 2014, President Obama permanently withdrew the region from oil and gas leasing. The story is told from the perspective of those on the front lines – leaders in the region and the seafood industry, past governors and former Interior Department secretaries.
