Ocean Guardian: Stacy Studebaker

Stacy Studebaker has made her home in Kodiak since 1980. In addition to being an artist and author of four books, she has devoted her life to environmental activism and education. Stacy taught high school Biology and Earth Science for over 20 years, was one of the co-founders of Kodiak’s Audubon Chapter and it was in her role as a trustee of Alaska Conservation Foundation that her connection to AMCC began.

More than 25 years ago, Stacy was among a local group that saw the need for a nonprofit to focus on sustainable fisheries issues in Kodiak and other Alaskan coastal communities. Those discussions gave rise to AMCC and a voice to local, conservation-minded fishermen in the fisheries policy decisions that affect their livelihoods.

“Keeping our coastal fishing communities economically vibrant, sustainable and environmentally healthy requires constant vigilance and action. No other Alaskan grassroots organization does this kind of work. Together with Alaska’s coastal communities, AMCC continues to step up to meet these challenges. I encourage others to support AMCC, like I do, through Pick.Click.Give.
